After three years of research, J Factory presents the fully functional perpetual calendar mechanical movement, the Jaeger-LeCoultre JL Master Perpetual Calendar YS automatic mechanical watch. Adhering to the philosophy of not sparing time and cost, we have successfully replicated the complex functions of the integrated 868/1 movement using imported mechanical components.
Firstly, the perpetual calendar function can be adjusted through an invisible button at the 8 o'clock position to change the year based on the month. The perpetual calendar operates normally, allowing for easier operation of the year module, with the year display ranging from 2023 to 2028, simplifying the process of replacing the perpetual calendar module.
Secondly, for the date disc, day disc, and month disc functions: 1. The date disc displays at the 3 o'clock position and can be adjusted forward by turning the first gear pulled out from the crown, while backward adjustment is not recommended as it may cause the month disc to jump. 2. The day disc is displayed at the 9 o'clock position and can be adjusted backward using the second gear pulled out from the crown, based on a 24-hour time setting. 3. The month disc is displayed at the 6 o'clock position and can be adjusted using the invisible button at the 8 o'clock position, with an operation lever included for easier adjustment. This allows for the restoration and implementation of three functions that can be adjusted independently, making it easier to operate while wearing the watch.
Thirdly, the alert window function is located above the center axis of the dial. When displayed in white, the year can be manually adjusted; when displayed in blue, it indicates a restricted time zone where yearly adjustments should be avoided to prevent damaging the movement's lifespan. Therefore, the 868/1 movement is a complex functional movement and not a defect in the mechanism; the original model functions the same way.
Fourthly, the moon phase disc function is located at the 12 o'clock position and runs through a full circle over 30 days, achieving a true moon phase display. It can be adjusted backward using the first gear pulled out from the crown, effectively addressing the issue of being unable to adjust the moon phase function independently.
A user adjustment instruction card will be provided to help watch enthusiasts better understand the adjustment methods of the above functions.
While emphasizing functional restoration, the aesthetic restoration is also of paramount importance.
Firstly, the material of the case and bezel is made from the same stainless steel as the original, with each component precisely crafted through CNC machining to replicate the original appearance, maintaining the original 39mm size and achieving a thickness that closely matches the original dimensions, controlling the overall thickness to approximately 10mm while realizing all complex functions. Secondly, the dial restoration is based on the original dimensions, with the scale markers being true to the original mold, achieving an unparalleled three-dimensional feel and luster. The dimensions and positions of the markers have undergone strict quality control, and the three functional discs are recessed as in the original. The moon phase and perpetual calendar windows exhibit a more significant three-dimensional effect, with the scale markers and logo closely following the original, creating a slightly raised appearance, and all dial colors are restored to be as consistent as possible.
Thirdly, the watch features the signature Dauphine hands, which are half sandblasted and half polished. The hour and second hands are crafted with a slight press-bending technique, and the blue steel hands are heat-treated for a purer blue color. All efforts in this process are essential to achieving the final result, striving to restore this Jaeger-LeCoultre Master complex perpetual calendar watch as faithfully as possible, allowing watch enthusiasts to not only appreciate its charm but also
